Enhancing Safety Through Better Light

Enhancing Safety Through Better Light

Located in the heart of Berlin-Kreuzberg, Görlitzer Park is one of Germany’s most well-known urban green spaces. As a vibrant meeting place for residents and visitors alike, it represents the ongoing challenge of balancing urban life, public safety, and quality of experience. The park’s new lighting installation makes an important contribution towards creating a more welcoming and accessible environment for everyone.  Rather than simply increasing brightness levels, the new lighting strategy focuses on improving the quality of light. The objective is clear: enhance orientation, strengthen the perception of safety, and improve the overall user experience while respecting the park’s natural character.

Best-in-Class Products – Precision Creates Confidence

At the core of the project are 108 WE-EF RMT320 luminaires featuring highly precise LED lens optics. Their asymmetric light distribution clearly defines pathways and entrances, creating intuitive orientation while avoiding unnecessary illumination of surrounding areas. This targeted approach minimizes spill light and protects the natural environment. Combining optical precision, visual comfort and long-term reliability, the luminaires embody WE-EF’s commitment to premium quality and outstanding performance. Warm-white 2700 K light creates a welcoming atmosphere while reducing attraction for nocturnal insects. Glare-free optics and enhanced vertical illumination improve facial recognition, supporting a stronger feeling of personal safety.

Unique Solutions – Tailored to People and Place

Every public space presents unique lighting challenges. In Görlitzer Park, the solution was carefully designed to balance safety, environmental protection and urban design requirements.  A combination of different pole heights, targeted pathway lighting and FLC230 projectors allows key locations to be illuminated precisely while preserving the park’s distinctive atmosphere. The project demonstrates how close collaboration and a deep understanding of stakeholder requirements can deliver a solution tailored to the specific needs of the site.

Our DNA – Lighting for People and the Planet

For more than 75 years, WE-EF has developed lighting solutions that support people while respecting the environment. The Görlitzer Park project follows the principle of “as much light as necessary, as little as possible.” Wireless networking through eSave modules enables adaptive control, energy efficiency and future flexibility without modifying existing infrastructure. The result demonstrates how lighting can become more than a functional requirement. It improves orientation, strengthens the perception of safety and enhances user wellbeing through intelligent design and exceptional lighting quality.
