Enveloping Princeton University Art Museum in textural illumination

Designed by Adjaye Associates, the Princeton University Art Museum serves as a welcoming cultural hub on campus. Pedestrian pathways flow into and through the museum, and at night, the illumination of the multi-level building guides pedestrians through moments of discovery and connection.

A prominent architectural feature of the new museum is its saw-tooth façade. Tillotson Design Associates, who designed the lighting solution for the project, sought to highlight the ridges in the concrete above and the textured walls at the pedestrian level. They selected WE-EF’s in grade luminaire, the ETV140, for its ability to deliver precise optics with minimal glare. The durability and easy maintenance of the ETV140 was also important to the university, especially for harsh, winter weather conditions.

The wall wash created by WE-EF’s ETV140 provides an elegant envelope for the museum, underscoring its role as a center for cultural exchange.
